Mathis began his journey at Wally Strength and Conditioning in 2020 as an athlete with a big vision of playing collegiate golf down south. In 2021, Mathis made his way to Texas and joined the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, a Division III institution where he played 3-years of collegiate golf. Mathis graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology in a strength and conditioning concentration. Mathis joined the WSC team in the summer of 2024 where his love for strength and conditioning was solidified.
Mathis continued his journey in Texas where he obtained a master’s degree in exercise physiology and was the graduate research assistant in the Human Performance Lab. During his time in Texas, Mathis was heavily involved in strength and conditioning at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor working with a variety of sports such as basketball, soccer, golf, football, baseball, softball, cross-country, and volleyball.
Additionally, Mathis took full responsibility of the women’s soccer team in the Fall of 2025 for 10-weeks due to the leave of the head strength and conditioning coach. In the Spring of 2026, Mathis served as an athletic performance intern at the University of Texas, Austin where he assisted with multi’s (high jumpers, pole vaulters, multi-event athlete), men’s golf, and cheer and pom. Mathis holds his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification from the NSCA and will join the WSC and joined the WSC team full-time in May 2026.
Culture and expectations: WSC culture is an environment like no other and pushes you to grow in multiple facets of life. WSC pushes you to be the best version of yourself every day and extends well beyond improving training qualities. WSC culture and environment is the perfect blend of seriousness and fun which drives coaches and athletes to be better every day.
Continued education/professional development: Wally understands the importance of continued education and professional development which is a major attraction for me. WSC pushes and prides themselves in an environment where “know it all” are not welcomed but rather coaches are “student of life” continually thriving to provide better coaching, programming, methods, equipment, etc to their clients and athletes.
Practice what you preach: WSC prides themselves in the famous words of Matthew 23.3 “practice what you preach.” Coaches and staff at WSC are serious about their own fitness journey aiding in building trust, respect, and credibility for the future generation.
